West Elementary continues to participate in a program sponsored by Best Buy. When customers purchase products in a Best Buy store, they have the option to receive Reward Zone Points for their purchase. As they accumulate points, they get Reward Zone Certificates to use as purchasing back in the store. During the purchase, Best Buy will ask customers if they would like to donate their points to a local school of choice. When customers choose to donate their points, it results in 2% of their purchase being credited to that school. This does not require anything of the school, except for receiving the certificates to use for Best Buy products.
If interested in participating, please be sure to specify West Elementary as the recipient of your “Reward Zone” points next time you shop at Best Buy. Thank you to Michelle Koch, Operations Manager of the Manhattan Best Buy, for organizing this opportunity. Michelle and her husband Brian reside in Wamego with their two children.

Kansas School Safety Hotline
The Kansas State Department of Education, in cooperation with the Kansas Highway Patrol, established a school safety hotline in 1999. This hotline is a toll free number available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year to give students, parents, and community members the opportunity to report any impending school violence.
Students usually have knowledge of potential school violence before it occurs. This hotline gives students the opportunity to anonymously report any potential violence.
The Kansas School Safety Hotline Number is 1-877-626-8203. Personnel at the Salina Central Dispatch of the Kansas Highway Patrol will answer the hotline number. The dispatchers will get as much information about each situation reported as the caller wishes to relay. Upon receipt of a call, the dispatchers will notify appropriate law enforcement agencies and/or the office of the superintendent of schools, depending upon the severity of the situation.
